The Loneliest Culture

I haven't posted for a few weeks because I was in Italy. Now I am back, and not happy about it.

It's not just that the scenery is gorgeous there,

or that the architecture is amazing,

or that the food is great,

or that one tends to have experiences of a lifetime.

It's the contrast between Italian culture, where people have coffee and talk, eat bar snacks in the evening while standing around talking, and walk around talking,

I have been sitting at the Barnes and Nobel cafe pretty regularly for the past fours years, and have only met one single person. We say hi now, but that's it. Everyone, including me, is glued to their computers, not making any eye contact, let alone conversation.

Oh how I wish I were back in Venice, navigating about with my poor Italian and making friends.
